How these numbers work
We use ASX closing prices, including distributions. Year-to-date and 1 year figures compare the latest close with the close around that earlier date. Multi-year figures are yearly averages (p.a.). That is different from Yahoo Finance tiles that often show the lump-sum total over three or five years.
Active ETFs have a manager who can change the holdings. Complex ETFs use tools such as gearing, shorts or derivatives, and many of those funds are still actively managed. Smart Beta ETFs follow a published rules-based index such as quality, value, momentum or equal weight. They appear under their asset class, for example Global Shares (Smart Beta), and also under Smart Beta.
"Inception p.a." is the yearly average since the first ASX price we have for that ticker. We only show it after the product has been listed for at least a year. A dash means there is not enough listed price history for that column.
